What are Progressive Lenses?

Progressives are no-line multifocal lenses with up to three viewing areas for near-, mid- and distance vision, so you can see up close and far away with one pair of glasses.

Who needs Progressive lensses?

As we age, It becomes more difficult to look at objects that are close to our eyes. This is a very common condition called Presbyopia. Most people first notice when they have trouble reading fine print, or when they have headaches after reading, due to eyestrain.

Bifocals were invented to alleviate this condition by adding a reading power to the bottom half of the lens, so that people could see distance as normal, then look down for a reading power.

Progressives are intended for people who need correction for Presbyopia, but do not want a hard line in the middle of their lenses.

Adjusting to progressive lenses

It might take anywhere between a week to a couple of months to adapt and learn the correct way to look through the lens.

To reduce the adjustment time, make sure to have your lenses customized and fitted by a licensed ophthalmologist or optometrist, and wear them as often as possible. Point your nose toward the object you’re focusing on and adjust your chin up or down until the object appears clear.

If you experience eye strain or headaches, it’s okay to take breaks and remove your glasses, but do keep trying.
